NOTES from Schott: The leather used for this style is a mid-weight oil tanned natural pebbled cowhide which is finished in the USA. What makes this leather unique is that it's drum dyed with a base color that is lighter than the finished garment appears. After the skin is drummed dyed (base color pigment is absorbed through the skin) it then goes through a process of being infused with oils and wax which leaves its topcoat appearing darker than the original base color. This process gives the finished garment its soft waxy hand feel. It also creates a natural pull up effect which allows the lighter base color to show through along the seams, turned edges and areas of wear. This allows the garment to take on an evolving character which results in tonal highs and lows as the garment is worn. No two garments come off production tonally the same which is part of the beauty of this leather. This ultimately produces a signature as the garment is worn making it unique to the specific wearer.
